I’m Gary L. Fuller, the artist and designer behind ABSTRACTONWOOD.
Before becoming an artist, I spent decades working as an executive chef, culinary educator, restaurateur, and entrepreneur. Professional kitchens taught me discipline, balance, presentation, and the importance of transforming individual elements into something memorable.
Those same principles now guide my artwork.
Why I Create on Wood
Wood gives each piece structure, depth, and character that canvas cannot duplicate. Every board begins with its own grain and natural imperfections. Sometimes those qualities remain visible; other times they are covered with color, texture, metallic finishes, or resin to create an entirely new surface.
My work combines sculptural forms with modern abstract design. The long, narrow format of many pieces allows them to bring strong visual interest to hallways, entryways, offices, and other spaces where traditional wide artwork may not fit.
My Process
Every ABSTRACTONWOOD piece begins with one of my original designs. Precision routing is used when a design requires recessed channels or exact sculptural forms. I then individually develop and finish each artwork using combinations of acrylic color, texture, metallic pigments, copper or gold leaf, crushed glass, and epoxy resin.
This combination of design technology and hands-on artistic finishing allows me to create work with clean structure, organic movement, and surfaces that change as the surrounding light changes.
Original Art for Distinctive Spaces
Each ready-made artwork is an original piece—not a print or mass-produced reproduction. I also create custom statement pieces for private collectors, interior designers, hospitality spaces, and commercial interiors.
Custom work can include larger 48-inch and 72-inch formats, coordinated multi-panel installations, and color palettes developed for a particular room or design project.
My goal is simple: to create artwork that feels architectural, unexpected, and unmistakably personal.
